Be cunning, play smart, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French relocated down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he invented the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
