Be clever, play brilliant, and learn how to play craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
