Be a Master of Craps – Pointers and Tactics: The Background of Craps
Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the country. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
