Be smart, play clever, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
